PELICANDY ANIMALS

Fresh from our showcase at The Great Escape in collaboration with Hand In Hive, these four London school friends achieve synth-pop perfection with their sophomore single ‘Animals’. Sounding at home alongside the likes of Metronomy, Little Cub and Liss, Pelicandy’s guitar licks, synthesised chord progression and slapping kick-drum are laden with an ‘80s suaveness and dance-inducing funk rhythm. For a track that’s pretty close to the prescribed 3:30 song length (actually 3:41), it seems to go on for much longer thanks to those relentless beats and an essence of time-travel, particularly with that truly retro refrain around the 2:30 mark. A hand in the past and yet seemingly reaching on and on into some unknown future only possible if we follow our instincts. - HT
